At fifty-seven, Lola Volpe Curtis is retiring from a physically grueling career as a game warden in order to restore her 3000-acre West Texas ranch to its glory days before her husband died. With the help of a new ranch crew, including an intriguing foreman, the ranch and Lola have a chance at rebirth. But when an orphaned teenager arrives on foot from out of nowhere, the foundation of Lola’s life as she knew it cracks and shifts. Just as she begins sorting the maelstrom of emotion from the realization she missed all the signs of her husband’s cheating, a real tornado rips through and decimates her ranch. With her life and property in shambles Lola wonders if she should throw in the towel.
